Implementation engineer in medical devices and surgical robotics.

Fifteen years of teaching engineering taught me to explain complex systems. Field work taught me to install them and keep them running. Today I do both in hospitals, getting new technology working for the people who use it.

Bars use the years listed on the résumé. Placement within a year is approximate.

A system is only useful when people can use it.

  1. Start with the real environment. Understand the equipment, constraints, workflow, and people before making a plan.
  2. Make the next step clear. Turn technical detail into decisions, documentation, and training people can act on.
  3. Connect across disciplines. Physicians, biomed, facilities, IT, and sales in the same conversation, from planning through handoff.

Stay on the line.

Surgical robots, laser-based manufacturing systems, classroom rovers. My work has always meant understanding a machine well enough to install it, verify it, and explain it to the people who rely on it.

This rover runs the same kind of loop as the laptop in the photo: look ahead on the line, measure the heading error, steer in proportion, and damp the overshoot. Pick a track or draw one, then tune it for the fastest clean lap.

    L, R = v - turn*b/2, v + turn*b/2 # 160 / 160

Tip: raise Kp until it wobbles, then add Kd until it settles.

Software I’m building on my own time. Each one is a work in progress, not a finished product.

Tax Co-Pilot

In progress

A private tax planning workspace. It projects federal and state tax through the year, tracks withholding, and lets you test a what-if before you make a move. Your data stays on your device, in an encrypted vault.

Detail B · Teach

Same six steps.
Different room.

From 2008 to 2023 I built and taught courses in engineering, robotics, computer science, CAD, and programming at Warren G. Harding High School. From 2020 to 2024 I also taught engineering online for Imagine Learning Virtual School.

The engineering design process was on my whiteboard every day.

A hospital implementation follows the same six steps. Pick one to compare.

Detail C · Coach

Do the math. Load the bar.

Health and fitness are a big part of my life. I enjoy training clients and I follow the data and science on exercise, health, and nutrition.

Coaching uses the same skills as teaching: pay attention, explain clearly, and help someone take the next step.

Every session starts with a little math. Enter a recent set, pick an intensity, and see what goes on each side of the bar.

Let’s talk

What are you building?

If you’re hiring for implementation, field engineering, or technical training, or you’re a startup taking a new product into hospitals, I’d like to hear about it.
